WHAT IS
IT
II.
HISTORY
-
A. In
1950s, Dr. Paul Winchell first patented an artificial heart.
-
Robert Jarvik invented the Jarvik artificial heart
III.
Parts
-
A. It
is made out of metal,
plastic, ceramic, and animal parts
-
B. A
titanium-aluminum-vanadium alloy is used for the pump
-
C.
The two grafts are formed from polyester, and the valves are
from a pig's heart.
IV.
How it Works
-
A.
The Jarvik artificial heart is powered by an external battery
pack
-
B.
There are animal parts that help the heart pump
-
C.
When this heart is inserted into the persons body, they attach
the heart to the veins and organs so it can beat.
V.
Downside/Modifications
-
A. The good thing about artificial hearts are they help people stay
alive when their old heart stops working.
-
B. The bad thing about it
is it is very dangerous to insert into the
body. The doctors may make a mistake and kill the
human.
Conclusion:
An artificial heart is a fake heart that doctors put in your body when
your old heart doesn't work that well. I found out that the jarvik
artificial heart was created by Robert Jarvik, and the regular
artificial heart was designed by Dr. Paul Winchell. They are inserted by
cardiologists, and the hearts are made out of metal, plastic, ceramic,
and other animal parts, such as the pig. The valves are a pig’s valve
(because our body is most like a pig’s).
They are powered by an external battery pack that is clipped on the
outside of someone who has an artificial heart inside their body. The
battery pack is connected to the wireless energy transfer system, which
connects to the artificial heart so it can always be powered. There is
an internal rechargeable battery so the external battery pack won’t run
out of power.
They are good for people, but dangerous, because when the doctors are
inserting it, they might accidentally make a mistake and kill the
person. They help a lot, because if someone’s heart has a problem, or
stopped running, someone rushes them to the hospital, and they get an
artificial heart inserted into their body so they can stay alive.
