Top Ten Weirdest Stories of 2010

A man in Kansas named Dave was impressed by a story of a rare video game selling for $13,000…. So he decided to look at his own collection of video games. One of them that he discovered sold for $41,270. Although it was the same game as in the story he heard, it was more valuable due to its unwrapped condition.

Judge Wesley Brown started working at age ten in 1917. He’s still alive today as a 102 year-old judge. He became a judge after being elected by John F. Kennedy in 1962! A study done by Harvard shows that since the 1980’s the number of people living to 100 has doubled. Right now there are about 70,000 Americans who are aged 100 or over.

Did you know that body position affects your memory? If your having trouble remembering something, get into the position you were in when you learned it. Much like scents and smells, muscle positioning helps bring back long-lost memories.

Maxi Sopo, a man wanted in bank fraud in Seattle, decided ALL his friends needed to know how much fun he was having evading the law in Mexico. So what did he do? He put it on face book. A fed in Seattle saw this post, found Sopo’s address on his homepage and went and arrested him. Every day, technology is making it easier and easier to find evidence of crimes.

Abel Madariaga, whose pregnant wife was kidnapped by Argentine forces 33 years ago, has finally found his son. The son, Francisco Madariga Quintela, aged 32, finally learned his true identity. An estimated 400 children were kidnapped at birth during a dictatorship 1976-1983.

At Ole Miss high school, the debate over a mascot rages on. Admiral Ackbar, a Starwars figure was originally suggested but is being shot down time and time again. Some parents have even gone to the extreme of threatening not to send their students to Ole Miss if the mascot is Admiral Ackbar!

In America we all know the emergency sign, the red EXIT sign. However, in nearly all other places, a green running man is used in the place of the Exit sign. Other countries argue that the red, also used in stoplights, may cause some confusion when people are trying to run as fast as possible. In fact, America has an extraordinary amount of word signs whereas in Europe, pictograms are used instead.

Casey Rogers, a sixth grader in Texas, won the right to a very special privilege…. Blowing up the Texas stadium. He won a contest for kids who work hard in community service. Casey himself is a foster child and is very well-known among the homeless in Dallas for bringing blankets and such.

In Detroit, an employee called Susan McBride was constantly asking a peer to stop wearing strong perfume. When she didn’t, McBride reported it to the city. She didn’t feel they acted quickly enough so she sued them and they settled for 100,00 dollars. Since then, the wearing of perfume has become banned in three buildings in Detroit.

Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov are directing a movie centered around vampires… and our sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln. Yes, you read that right, don’t bother re-reading it, they are making a movie about Abe Lincoln, the vampire hunter. Based on a novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of pride and prejudice, these two directors will make a blood chilling film about the true nature of Honest Abe.
