Kara Good
After serving three years as American Academy PTO Treasurer, I am interested in continuing to volunteer in a strategic-based role with American Academy. The SAC is good opportunity based on my proven strengths and experience in volunteering in many areas at the school and community at large along with my professional background. Currently, I am employed at KBM Group, a publicly-traded global leader in knowledge-based digital and database marketing solutions, as Vice President of Business Development. This work environment has continued to show me the importance of teaching our youth the importance of both fundamentals and application studies in the STEM, especially technology, area.
During my PTO Treasurer tenure, I proactively took on the leadership role of overseeing the Fundraising Programs (Scrip, Restaurant Events, Box Tops and other Brigades) for the first two years of serving and researched, added and marketed two new programs – Entertainment Books and Safeway Scrip, while serving the treasurer role.
We have been at American Academy from day one when my daughter, Emma, started kindergarten in 2005. My son, Jameson, is a 4th grader. Over the years, I have volunteered in various capacities ranging from Home Room Mom for two years; doing recess and stuffing Friday folders every week for three years; and, currently still serve on the Uniform Resale Committee.
I have a desire to aid American Academy to continue and strengthen its STEM program and am committed to maintain a professional, open-mindedness, energetic and positive attitude. Thank you for your consideration

I grew up in Michigan and was educated in the public school systems there. After high school I attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with honors with a degree in mathematics. After owning my own consulting firm for a number of years, I accepted a full-time position with IBM Boulder in 2000. My career as a project manager and IT architect allows me to exercise leadership and problem-solving skills with IBM and customer teams from around the world. My experience has given me a proven track record of building consensus and working collaboratively to achieve common goals, despite the challenges presented by geographical, cultural, and philosophical differences and constraints imposed by schedules and resources.
With my background I can certainly appreciate the value of a STEM-based curriculum. After spending three years on the waiting list, my wife, Lori, and I were finally able to enroll our daughter at American Academy for third grade, and we have now been American Academy parents for four years. Lori is a frequent volunteer for in-class activities and field trips, and I have been the volunteer referee for the boys' and girls' middle school soccer teams for the past two years.
I am currently in my second term on the Douglas County School District's Fiscal Oversight Committee. This committee works directly with the DCSD CFO, Bonnie Betz, to provide guidance and to make recommendations to the school board on financial issues. In addition, I served on the FOC's School Autonomy Subcommittee. This subcommittee closely examined the differences in the way neighborhood and charter schools were funded and made recommendations to address the inequalities that we identified.
I am in instrument-rated private pilot and a USSF-certified soccer referee.
American Academy is a great school in one of Colorado's finest districts, and I want to contribute to its continued success. I believe that my career experience and the district-wide perspective I have gained through the FOC will make me a valuable addition to American Academy's School Accountability Committee. I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the SAC.

Welcome to American Academy’s School Accountability Committee (SAC)
Meetings held on the 1st Monday of each month at 4:30pm in the AA conference room
In Colorado, it is a statutory requirement for every school to have a School Accountability Committee(SAC). The purpose of the SAC is to provide opportunities for parents, staff, and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of their individual school’s instruction programs along with being a representative voice for the community. They make recommendations to the school principal on the school-wide action planning and goals for improvement, as well as the school budgeting process.
Created by state statue in the 1970’s, these committees are comprised of parents, teachers, administrators, students, and community members. The focus of this committee is to inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for all stakeholders to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement processes.
School Accountability Committee (SAC) should:
represent the community point of view
make recommendations and/or give advice to the principal
Work as a positive team member with the Science Department and other middle school teachers to provide the best possible education
focus on needs and concerns of the school’s community
review various components of the school program and advise the principal as to how well these meet the school and community needs
designate a representative to the District Advisory Committee
adopt by-laws consistent with the District’s organizational guidelines
conduct a regular needs assessments/survey for the formulation of school improvement goals
cooperatively develop areas of study based upon school baseline data and school profile information
help in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan
serve to facilitate the communications to the community and to the District Accountability Committee
meet other requirements as indicated in state law
meet on a monthly basis at a time when the majority of all members of the community can attend
open its meetings to the public, and publish the time, date and location of the meetings
