Middle School Science Teacher
American Academy, a Core Knowledge charter school with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in Castle Rock is seeking a full-time middle school science instructor to begin August 2010. American Academy provides an academically rigorous science and STEM curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Instruction of science to middle school students with ability to adapt curriculum to varying abilitie
- Work critically and creatively with STEM coordinator and Senior Academic Director to maintain and develop a robust science and STEM program
- Work as a positive team member with the Science Department and other middle school teachers to provide the best possible education
- Daily upkeep of grades in Infinite Campus and homework updates on webpage
- Maintain good parental relations and communications of progress and concerns
- Adhere to mission and philosophy of American Academy

Requirements:
- A Colorado teaching license with an endorsement in secondary science
- A Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering fieldAt least 3 years of successful teaching experience at the secondary levelStrong technology experience and skills
- Competency instructing Life, Earth and Physical sciences
- Willing and available to attend week long overnight field trips out of state
- Willing to teach/coach science and STEM extra-curricular activities
- Experience working with some of the following a plus:
  o Lego Mindstorms and the First Lego League Robotics Competition
  o Denver Metro Science and Engineering Fair (Intel rules for precollege research)
  o Rocketry and the Team America Rocketry Challenge
  o Junior Solar Sprint and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car Competitions with NREL
  o Satellite Tool Kit (AGI)
  o CAD Software (Solid Works, Google Sketch-up)
