I am beginning my 9th year of teaching elementary school and my 5th year at American Academy. Prior to this, I taught the teeny-tiny little ones in pre-school for three years. I received my teaching degree from the University of Iowa: Go Hawkeye’s!! I am originally from the Chicago area. My husband, Jim, and I lived in Canada for 3 years where our daughter, Brittany (16), was born. We have a son, Alec (14), who was born in Chicago. We also share our home with our golden retriever, Larry, a gecko, 2 rats, and a turtle. Our family loves the outdoors and this is the reason that we moved to Colorado 13 years ago. I love to hike, camp, bike, run, and, most of all, swim. I collect children’s books and love them more than most women love shoes. I love teaching 2nd grade and I am looking forward to a very exciting year at American Academy.

I am thrilled to join the second grade team at American Academy. This is my tenth year of teaching. I've taught children of all ages in the Aurora, Elizabeth and Littleton school districts. I received my BA degree from Grand Canyon University with emphasis in English, music, public speaking, and theatre. I also hold a graduate degree in Elementary Education. I wholeheartedly support all of the American Academy curriculum and have used it extensively. When I'm not teaching, I love to write. I've written for several local markets and recently received my first national publication--a dream come true and something I've worked my entire life to achieve. My most precious gifts are my husband and two elementary-aged daughters.

This is my 5th year teaching 2nd grade at American Academy & I love it! I graduated from Regis University in Denver but started my college career at Colorado State- Go Rams!!! I grew up in a small farm town in Swink, CO & love going home to see my family throughout the year especially my baby cousin who is now 2 ½. My family grows Rocky Ford Watermelon & Cantaloupe along with many yummy veggies so I’m busy with Farmer’s Markets on my weekends every summer. Another part of my family is my two cats which I’m sure your kids will tell you all about throughout the year as I share stories about their adventures. When I’m not teaching or selling melons, I love scrapbooking, watching movies, reading, & vacations- preferably on a beach. I look forward to a great year of learning & laughing with your children!

This is my fifth year teaching, but my first year at American Academy. Before moving to Colorado this past June, I taught fourth grade at a Core Knowledge Charter school in Utah. I am very excited have the opportunity to work at American Academy. I can already tell this is a great school Before becoming a teacher, I studied Political Science at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, French at l'université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France and earned a Masters degree in Children's Theatre and Costume design from The University of Nebraska. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, sewing, swimming, and spending time with my family. I have a wonderful husband, who I've been married to for four years. We are blessed to have a son Nikolah who is one and a half.
